Who Are We?
Huntingdon Writers’ Group (HWG) founded by Alan Cross, has been in existence since June 1985.
HWG does not teach creative writing, it is simply a group of like-minded people who enjoy writing; the standard doesn’t have to be on the lines of JK Rowling, but to have such a writer within our group would be fantastic! As a group we encourage each other in our writing, whatever the interest or standard, and have a great deal of fun in the process.
Your first group meeting is free (unless a speaker is booked, in which case a charge of £2.50 is made, your subsequent meeting being taken as free). All other meetings (without speaker) are set at £2.00. There is an annual subscription fee of £12.00 (£10.00 for concessions: students, unemployed, OAPs etc...) and this is due in June (AGM), payable by newcomers joining the group up to and including December. If, however, you join after Christmas, a subscription calculating to £1.50 each month is charged to the following June.
There is a full calendar of events including in-house competitions, ‘on the spot’ writing exercises, occasional workshops and the very popular ‘read and comment’ sessions. Most competitions are set at 500 words maximum prose, or 32 lines poetry.
A warm and friendly welcome awaits you.
